Legend of Zelda Large Link Perler by Perler-Pony Legend of Zelda Large Link Perler by Perler-Pony
So I know what some of my watchers may be thinking right now. "You wait months to post something new, and when you do IT'S NOT EVEN HORSE RELATED!?!" This Link perler was actually a prepaid commission on Etsy from a nice customer that ordered before Bronycon and was patient enough to wait about two months for it. Granted, I ended up underpricing it (again) because apparently I'm awful at pricing larger items that take up way too much of my time and table space, but at least now I know what to price it as. Let's just say I gave it to him for under a hundred and it should have been over a hundred.

But less on pricing/posting woes and more on the actual piece! I'm sure a lot of you Zelda and sprite fans have seen this design before. I certainly did not make it. Abysswolf on Deviant Art made it, but for some weird reason I can't find the exact sprite in his gallery. Here's a link for the game he makes the sprites for: cardgallery.tales-tra.com/main… A lot of people have made this sprite in perler beads before I have. There are some noticeable differences though. The pants are purple compared to the normal blue or grey, the boots have shades of red and orange instead of just brown, and I even put a little teal in the outfit. Okay, a bunch of teal. I love teal, okay!?! I felt weird as I was making these differences, but when I was finished I realized that the bright, almost contrasting colors more closely resemble the original Zelda games more than if I had just gone with normal coloring. I dunno, I know I'm biased because I made it, but overall I'm pretty happy with the color choices I made. Blame my pony experience on why it's so colorful if the previous explanation doesn't work.

So this guy took a minimum 10 hours. Honestly, I stopped counting after 10. Humans are kind of a pain in the butt for me to do due to my lack of experience, much less ones as detailed as the sprite I used. It was incredibly headache inducing and sometimes I would avoid it for a week at a time because just looking at the partially finished work gave me a small headache. Link is about 2 feet tall and a foot and a half wide. The Discord figure you see in the image is about 8 inches, so you can use that as a size reference.

Would I do it again? If I price it right next time, yes, but only if the original sprite artist doesn't message me about stopping. I feel uncomfortable using other people's sprites even if it is over licensed characters. (Not to mention looking back and forth from the boards to the computer was half the reason I got headaches. There's a reason I rarely ever make sprites of my perlers!) If you're seriously interested, message me and we can talk about it.

And yes, I will make pony stuff again... eventually. Sorry, but it's a little hard to make new MLP content when the show has been on hiatus for so long. I'll be expanding my shop with other items in the mean time!

So this I find amusing... sorry in advance for how long this story is but last week my friend just got into doing perler art and to start he made one of the very simple Link sprites... so then he suggested that I try making something and the first thing I think is "hmmm... poniessss" so rather than copy a reference I looked on my phone and was like "eh, Carrot Pone look cute", so I spent the next 45 minutes messing around with beads realizing this requires a crap ton of patience. But in the end I had made Carrot pone and was fairly satisfied.  Now moving on to where this comes in XD  My friend was all like, "of course you would make a pony" and I was like "yeah, it's me, why what would you make?" then he brings his phone up all like "well if I had the skill I would make this"... and shows me this exact one that you made... "oh look it's Discord! I wonder if he makes pony art too?"  And at that moment my friend gave me the boot, oh maybe it was Links boot jk XD  Now I just thought this was funny because while looking at perler pony art you were the first DA that came up today while doing a quick search to see what others have made.

Anyways, I just have to say you do very nice work and the fact that you actually commissioned this is amazing and I say keep up doing what you love! XD (also sorry again for how long this comment is)

OH... MY... GOOOOSH!!! How do people do that?!?! My perler bead sword took me the whole day to create. That Link sprite would literally take me the whole entire week to create bead by bead, and as large as that one too! Great job! :D :D

Link looks awesome! I do have one question though- one beader to another hehe. I love making more challenging, larger images, but I suck at the melting process! Anything larger than like 3 or 4 boards, and I always ruin it! What is the best/easiest process you use for melting such large pieces?? I'm dying here being stuck with just small pieces so I don't mess it up!
Thanks!!

I wish I could say that I have a giant iron that would iron like 4 boards at a time, but sadly I don't. The only secret here is being extra patient, making sure you have AT LEAST half an hour set aside just for ironing, don't even think about taking breaks until it's ready to be flattened, and if it's big enough laying down multiple ironing papers in the direction you're ironing (the last paper you put down should be the first you start ironing on. That way when you iron the overlap the paper doesn't bend or go flying.)

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Of course, I've also wished for a giant iron as well! lol. Thanks for the tip though!
